The key rule: When you increase wheel diameter, you must decrease tire sidewall height to maintain the same overall tire diameter. This keeps your speedometer accurate and prevents clearance issues.

For example, if your car came with 18" wheels and 245/45R18 tires, upgrading to 20" wheels would require approximately 245/35R20 tires. The overall diameter stays nearly identical, but you gain a more aggressive look with less visible tire sidewall.
